Math Process Video Project

Students choose one of the projects below. Certain projects may require a partner or partners. Tell me if you think some of my suggestions might take more time than the kids have in class, and we can make adjustments to fit the allotted time. If you would like more examples of specific projects, let me know and I can make them.

Photostory math project
describe a mathematical process or concept using photostory. Also describe things like a math processes history, such as where and when it was “invented”, and other related facts about the subject.
Moviemaker video presentation
Do an all video presentation on a subject. Write a script describing a mathematical process or concept and then have student(s) record using Flipcams or Netbook webcams. Plug video into moviemaker (Brian or Jessica can instruct the students specifically how to do this) and present video to class. (plugging into moviemaker is optional unless you want things like titles and credits, ect..)
Famous person interview
Find a historical figure famous in mathematics. Pair up with another student and present a mock interview in front of the class, talking about what their contribution to mathematics was and why it was so important to the field.
Show and tell
Take a concept (figuring out the area of a triangle) and explain to us using Photostory, PowerPoint or as a verbal presentation how somebody in the “real world” might use that concept to do their job or use it in a practical way in their life.
